The AC powered CSR+ and battery powered CSRB+ receivers connect to the individual lights in your setup, ready to receive commands from the
Cyber Commander™.
Both receivers have a 16-position frequency dial, a 16-position channel dial and a test button. The frequency of all receivers must match that set in the
Cyber Commander™ for control of firing, flashpower and other adjustments. Each receiver must then be set to its own unique channel when using the
Cyber Commander™. The receivers communicate bilaterally with
Cyber Commander™ to assure reliable receipt of all commands (all CyberSync™ receivers are actually transceivers and employ a selectable repeater mode to allow doubling of the firing range, but not adjustment range).
The
AC powered CSR+ (50VAC to 260VAC, 50/60HZ) uses a pass-through power cord to share an AC power source with the connected flash unit. The receiver has a short power cord that attaches to your AC powered flash unit and an AC receptacle into which your flash unit’s power cord connects. The receiver hangs from your light unit on its 10" cord without added power cords.
The
battery powered CSRB+ uses alkaline or rechargeable NiMH AA cells. The CSRB+ has a 200 hour battery life with automatic shutoff after one hour of non-use, allowing about 50 shooting sessions per charge.
Both the CSR+ and CSRB+ connect to your flash unit with a supplied RJ11 (phone jack) to RJ11 cord and supplied two-foot sync cord (for connections to flashes with 1/8-inch, 1/4-inch or PC jacks). PC-connection and 1/4” full size sync jack adapters are provided.
The CSR+ and CSRB+ receivers facilitate adjustment of flashpower and other parameters when used with the
Cyber Commander™ transmitter. When signaled by the CST2 Transmitter, the receivers will only serve to fire the units to which they are attached.
The CSR+ and CSRB+ receivers connect to individual flash units in your setup in order to receive trigger and adjustment commands.
At least one transmitter (sold separately from each receiver) is required for use. A transmitter is used at the camera-position and sends commands to each receiver in your setup. There are two transmitter options: the Cyber Commander™ Transmitter (for complete control of all parameters) and the CST2 Trigger Transmitter (for triggering only).
- The CC Cyber Commander™ Transmitter: (recommended with CSR+, CSRB+ , and CSXCV receivers) For a complete setup that cues firing, flashpower adjustment and control of all other parameters, you will need one Cyber Commander™ transmitter at the camera position and one receiver (either CSXCV, CSR+ or CSRB+) for each light in your setup.
- The CST2 Trigger Transmitter : The CSR+ and CSRB+ receivers can be used with the CST2 Trigger Transmitter, though with this setup, the receivers can only receive cues to fire. No flashpower adjustment or other parameter control is possible when only the CST2 is used. For a triggering-only wireless setup, you will need one CST2 transmitter and at least one receiver (CSR, CSRB, CSR+, CSRB+ or CSXCV). When just one receiver is used, the other units in the setup can be fired simultaneously via their built-in slave trippers. If you will be working in an environment where other photographers and flashes can inadvertently trip your lights, you can use one receiver for each light in the setup. You can mix receivers in your setup (using one CSR, one CSRB+ and one CSXCV, for example) - you will simply need to ensure that all receivers are set to the same frequency.
Flash Unit Connection: As the CSR+ and CSRB+ connect to flash units via either sync or RJ11 phone jack connection, they are only fully compatible with Paul C. Buff™ units having an RJ11 outlet (this includes all AlienBees™, White Lightning™ and Zeus™ units made since 1986). For the DigiBee units and Einstein E640 flash unit, please see the
CSXCV transceiver. For use with speedlights and flash units by other manufacturers, adapters are provided for connecting the receiver’s sync cord to units with PC outlets, 1/8” and 1/4” sync outlets. Connection to flash units using “H” style connections is possible with suitable adapter cable (need a specialty cable? Check out
FlashZebra!). Without the RJ11 phone jack, however, only the triggering, metering and grouping functions can be utilized on these units.
Speedlites and Other Flashes: Many speedlites and flash units made by other manufacturers can be used with the CyberSync™ system. When using the
CST2 CyberSync™ Transmitter 2, a CSR, CSRB, CSR+ or CSRB+ receiver can be used for triggering, though we recommend the CSRB+ over the CSR+ as the CSR+ still requires use of a power cord. When using the
Cyber Commander™, a CSR+ or CSRB+ can be used for triggering, metering and grouping. All Cyber Commander™ functions are retained except for power adjustment - that can only be accomplished on Paul C. Buff™ units. Adapters are provided for connecting the receiver’s sync cord to speedlites or other flash units with PC outlets, 1/8” and 1/4” sync outlets. Connection to flash units using “H” style connections is possible with suitable adapter cable (need a specialty cable? Check out
FlashZebra!). Speedlites without a sync connection may be able to use our
SLFA adaptor for connection.
Note: Not all speedlites and flash units can be used with the CyberSync™ system.
Due to the nature of the design, CyberSync™ receivers can be used in a limited capacity for remote shutter release when using the appropriate cable (tested with
FlashZebra! prerelease cables).
CSRB receivers are the most compatible receivers for this purpose. However, since this is not a design function of CyberSync™, we cannot offer technical support or make any guarantees of compatibility for such use.
