The CST2 mounts on your camera's hot shoe to provide wireless firing so that when your camera shutter is pressed, the CST2 will simultaneously send the firing signal to all of the flash units in your setup fitted with CyberSync™ receivers.
The unit sends a trigger command to all of the lights in one of the selectable 16 frequencies in the 2.4GHz band, firing any CyberSync™ receiver set to the same frequency. The use of selectable frequencies provides increased integrity in the presence of interference signals over other systems that use a single frequency and merely vary the encoding to determine operating channels or banks.
The CST2 is our second-generation trigger transmitter for the CyberSync system, offering significant design improvements for even better performance. With this new design, the unit uses a CR2032 3V cell lithium battery in a convenient slide out tray for easy replacement. The new battery type allows for inexpensive replacement with a battery that is much more commonly available and easier to find. Additionally, the new design reduces the power draw while the unit is in SLEEP MODE (whenever it is not actively transmitting), providing longer battery life, lasting approximately 2 years in typical use.
As the CST2 is designed for use in your camera’s hot shoe, the new design offers an enhanced, spring-loaded hot shoe contact for a secure fit and reliable triggering.
With the CyberSync™ system, the CST2 Trigger Transmitter serves as the transmitter at the camera position. You will need
at least one receiver for your setup or
you can use one receiver for each light in the setup. With one receiver attached to one light in your setup, any remaining lights will take their cue to fire from their built-in slave trippers. If you will be working in an environment where other photographers and flashes can inadvertently trip your lights, you can use one receiver for each light in the setup. You may also need to use one receiver for each light when working outdoors.
The CST2 Trigger Transmitter can be used with all CyberSync™ receivers: the
CSR and CSRB, the
CSR+ and CSRB+ and the
CSXCV transceiver (on Einstein™ units). The CST2, however, is only designed for triggering and only sends a firing cue to any receiver in the setup.
Note: When used with the CSR+, CSRB+ and CSXCV receivers, no adjustments can be made with the CST2. The CST2 is strictly designed for triggering. Some customers choose to purchase these receivers for use with the CST2 in order to future-fit their setup should they opt to purchase the Cyber Commander™ at a later date.
The CST2 Trigger Transmitter may be used in conjunction with the
Cyber Commander™. Many photographers wish to use both as this setup allows you to hand hold the Cyber Commander™ for adjustments and easy flashmeter readings while the CST2 can remain in your camera’s hot shoe for triggering. If the
CSR+ or CSRB+ receivers are connected to your lights, all grouping and other functions established by your Cyber Commander™ will be honored when the system is fired from the CST2. Please note that the CST2 will only send a signal to fire and does not adjust flashpower.
Note: CyberSync™ will not fire from Sekonic Meters with the Pocket Wizard Module. These meters can only be fired to or from a Pocket Wizard as the frequencies and coding are proprietary to Pocket Wizard.
Camera Compatibility: The CST2 base fits standard ISO hot shoes. This is the common hot shoe found on most cameras. If you need to use an adapter they can be found at
FlashZebra!.
