The AC powered CSR and battery powered CSRB receivers connect to the individual lights in your setup, forming a simple and reliable wireless triggering system when used with the CST2 Trigger Transmitter. The CST2 is placed on your hot shoe (or connected using the supplied PC cord) and a CSR or CSRB receiver is connected to each light in the setup. When the camera shutter is pressed, the CST2 will send the cue to fire to the receiver-connected lights.

The AC powered CSR (50VAC to 260VAC, 50/60HZ) uses a pass-through power cord to share an AC power source with the connected flash unit. The receiver has a short power cord that attaches to your AC powered flash unit and an AC receptacle into which your flash unit’s power cord connects. The receiver hangs from your light unit on its 10" cord without added power cords.

The battery powered CSRB uses alkaline or rechargeable NiMH AA cells. The CSRB has a 200 hour battery life with automatic shutoff after one hour of non-use, allowing about 50 shooting sessions per charge.

Both the CSR and CSRB connect to your flash unit with a supplied two-foot sync cord (for connections to flashes with 1/8-inch, 1/4-inch or PC jacks). PC-connection and 1/4-inch full size sync jack adapters are provided.

Note: The CSR and CSRB receivers can be used with the Cyber Commander™, but they receive only the trigger command. They have no channel selection and cannot respond to groups or other features of Cyber Commander™.

The CyberSync™ transmitter/receiver pair may be used to trigger all Paul C. Buff, Inc.™ studio flash units as well as most other flash brands employing a standard phone jack (RJ11) or mini phone jack sync input. Connection to flash units using “H” style connections is possible with suitable adapter cables. Need a specialty cable? Check out FlashZebra!

With the CyberSync™ system, the CSR and CSRB receivers are connected to the flash units in your setup and require a transmitter at the camera position.

The receivers are compatible with both the CST2 Trigger Transmitter and the CC Cyber Commander™. The CSR and CSRB receivers, however, are only designed to receive cues to fire. They can receive the cue to fire from either the CST2 or Cyber Commander™, but cannot receive commands for flashpower adjustment or control of any other parameters with the Cyber Commander™ (for these options, see the CSR+ and CSRB+ receivers).

For a complete setup, you will need one transmitter (either the CST2 or the Cyber Commander™) and at least one receiver (CSR, CSRB, CSR+, CSRB+ or CSXCV). When just one receiver is used, other units in the setup can be fired simultaneously via their built-in slave trippers. If you will be working in an environment where other photographers and flashes can inadvertently trip your lights, you can use one receiver for each light in the setup. You can mix receivers in your setup (using one CSR, one CSRB+ and one CSXCV, for example) - you will simply need to ensure that all receivers are set to the same frequency.

As the CSR and CSRB connect to flash units with their provided sync cords, they are only compatible with Paul C. Buff™ units having an RJ11 outlet (this includes all AlienBees™, White Lightning™ and Zeus™ units made since 1986). The CSR and CSRB can be used with DigiBee units and Einstein E640 flash unit, but we recommend the CSXCV transceiver. For use with speedlites and flash units by other manufacturers, adapters are provided for connecting the receiver’s sync cord to units with PC outlets, 1/8” and 1/4” sync outlets. Connection to flash units using “H” style connections is possible with suitable adapter cable (need a specialty cable? Check out FlashZebra!).

Speedlites and Other Flashes: Many speedlites and flash units made by other manufacturers can be used with the CyberSync™ system. When using either the Cyber Commander™ or CST2 CyberSync™ Transmitter 2, a CSR or CSRB receiver can be used for triggering, though we recommend the CSRB over the CSR as the CSR still requires use of a power cord. Adapters are provided for connecting the receiver’s sync cord to units with PC outlets, 1/8” and 1/4” sync outlets. Connection to flash units using “H” style connections is possible with suitable adapter cable (need a specialty cable? Check out FlashZebra!). Speedlites without a sync connection may be able to use our SLFA adaptor for connection.

Note: Not all speedlites and flash units can be used with the CyberSync™ system.

Due to the nature of the design, CyberSync™ receivers can be used in a limited capacity for remote shutter release when using the appropriate cable (tested with FlashZebra! prerelease cables). CSRB receivers are the most compatible receivers for this purpose. However, since this is not a design function of CyberSync™, we cannot offer technical support or make any guarantees of compatibility for such use.

The CSR and CSRB can be used with the LG4X wired remote and retired RC-1 wired remote. You can connect the wired remote to the lights in your setup, then connect one receiver to the wired remote (sync cord provided).
